Ken obtained his Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy in 1990 from Dalhousie University after achieving his Bachelor of Physical Education in Sports Science from University of New Brunswick in 1987. In 1999 he passed the Part A exam in manipulative therapy and became a Resident of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Therapy. He began his physiotherapy career in Nova Scotia working in hospital and private practice settings. He moved back to PEI in 1996 where he worked in a private practice until he opened The Physio Center in 2004. In his spare time Ken enjoys activities such as hockey, golf and karate. He also enjoys spending time with his wife Cheryl and their three children.
Blythe graduated with a Masters degree in Physiotherapy from Dalhousie University in 2010. Prior to this she attended UPEI and received a Bachelor of Science degree in 2008. Blythe is excited to be working in her hometown of Summerside, helping to promote wellness and guidance for injury management to members of the community. She enjoys working with patients of all ages and abilities. Specialized certifications that Blythe has achieved include :

- Certification in Functional Dry Needling
- Certification of Anatomical Acupuncture
- Yoga Therapy training
- Advanced Physical Therapy Institute training in cervicothoracic complex and lumbopelvic complex programs

Jenn graduated from Dalhousie University in 2012, with a Masters of Science in Physiotherapy and in 2008 with a Bachelor of Kinesiology with Honours. Since graduation Jenn has worked in cancer rehabilitation, management of lymphedema and stroke rehabilitation. Since joining The Physio Center team Jenn enjoys working with patients of all ages and different injuries. She continually strives to further her education, applying techniques like Myofascial release and acupuncture in her treatments. Jenn enjoys running, swimming, yoga, traveling and spending time with her husband Jamie, and new born baby girl, Brooke!
Jane graduated from Dalhousie University in 2014 with a Masters in Science of Physiotherapy. Her major research project related to knee strength and osteoarthritis patients. Jane's first degree was from Acadia University, Class of 2011, with a Bachelor of Kinesiology and Biology where she completed research for the development of diabetes tool kit, which is now implemented in Atlantic Canada. Jane has participated in many sports in the past with a special interest in rugby. She has coached at the high school and provincial levels, as well as played varsity rugby for Acadia University and worked with their varsity team. Jane enjoys taking a holistic approach to treatment, thus promoting health and wellness for all patients. In her spare time, she loves to be outdoors hiking and enjoying nature.
Dr. Chris McCarthy
Dr. Chris McCarthy graduated on the Dean's List with Cum Laude Honours and Clinic Honours from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC). Upon entrance to CMCC Dr. McCarthy was awarded the R. Lloyd Pennington Memorial Award, which is given to the first year student with the highest overall admissions score. Prior to CMCC, he obtained a Bachelor of Science from U.P.E.I where he was on the Dean's List in all four years.
Dr. McCarthy has furthered his rigorous four year Chiropractic education by completing soft tissue courses, becoming a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (C.S.C.S), and receiving a Contemporary Medical Acupuncture certification from McMaster University. He enjoys working with team sports and is the head therapist for the Major Midget Kensington Wild. In his free time he enjoys running, hockey, cycling and spending time with his wife Sara and his three children Anna, Caleb, and Finn.
Registered Massage Therapist
Heidi has been working as a Registered Massage Therapist since 2008. In 2015, she completed a five year Osteopathic program at the College d'Etudes Osteopathiques and is currently pursuring her thesis research. Prior to focusing on manual therapy she graduated with a Bachelor of Physical Education with an emphasis on athletic conditioning and rehabilitation. Utilizing an osteopathic approach, she endeavours to find links between one's various ailments in order to allow the body to once again find vibrant health. Treatment sessions are a mix of various techniques that come from many years with a nose stuck in textbooks! Outside of work, she is a multisport athlete, an avid foodie and enjoys pursuing creative endeavors. She looks forward to working with her clients and supporting their road to recovery.
Registered Massage Therapist
Born in Summerside, PE Nick graduated with honours from Eastern College in 2014. With a background in competitive swimming, Nick saw first hand how massage therapy can make a significant difference in people's lives. He is particularly passionate about post operative scar tissue work, postural dysfunction and chronic pain management. In his spare time Nick enjoys swimming, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Nick is thrilled to be joining the team at The Physio Center and learning from his new colleagues.
Melissa is a graduate from the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science and Major in Food and Nutrition. Melissa has also completed through UPEI a dietetic internship program where she did placements across PEI. She completed placements in three island hospitals as an in-patient dietitian, two placements as a food service dietitian in long-term care settings and a community dietitian placement for public health. Melissa is registered through the Prince Edward Island Dietitian Registration Board. Melissa has experience working as a community dietitian in island francophone schools where she worked at evaluating cafeteria menus and gained group facilitation skills. She is currently working as a community dietitian for Public Health, as an in-patient dietitian and an ambulatory dietitian in an island hospital. Melissa is passionate about helping individuals improve their health with nutrition. In her spare time, she enjoys working in her flowers/garden, going on runs or figure skating with her synchro team.
Dr. Cassandra Goodwin graduated from UPEI with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry while playing varsity basketball for the Panthers. She then took some time to travel and learn more about how other cultures view health and wellness, which lead her to return to Canada to study at the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine, a 4 year program in New Westminster, BC. She is a member of good standing with the CNPBC, CAND and the PEIAND, and is a licensed naturopathic doctor. She returned to PEI to practice in mid 2015, and is delighted to be home on PEI. She is passionate about helping Island women and their families move from surviving to thriving in their everyday lives. In her free time, she enjoys experimenting with local food, writing and being active in her communities.
Clinic Manager/Kinesiologist/Administrative Assistant
Heather graduated from Saint Francis Xavier University in 2011, with a Bachelor of Kinesiology and minor in Psychology. Her main academic focus was children with disabilities and the benefits of exercise. During her time at ST.FX she volunteered in numerous organizations such as the food bank, Fit for Life, Motor Abilities @ X and at the local junior high school in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. Heather gained knowledge and experience in sports injuries as she was the team trainer for the Junior "A" Pictou County Weeks Crushers of the Maritime Junior Hockey League; and is currently in her third season working with the Summerside Ford D Alex MacDonald Western Capitals. In Heather's spare time she enjoys dance, skiing, and golf.
Truda graduated from the Medical Support Services program at Holland College in 2012 with a diploma in Medical Secretary and Transcription. Over the past years, Truda has volunteered with Tim Hortons Camp Day and with the Canadian Cancer Society's Daffodil Month and is continuing to volunteer with the Relay for Life. In Truda's free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, going for walks and being outdoors with her dog, and baking.
Originally from Newfoundland, Margi graduated from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Physical Education. She has lived in all four Atlantic provinces since then and has worked in recreation, education and sport and has volunteered with various groups and organizations. Margi was a competitive swimmer and coached swimming at Age-Group, University and Masters levels. For many years she volunteered with Lifesaving Society at a provincial and national level. Margi was a substitute teacher in Summerside, PE and Riverview, NB. For eight years while living in New Brunswick, Margi was in charge of a Swim Enrichment Program for students with disabilities in School District 2. PEI is home again for Margi and her husband, unfortunately her two grown daughters live out of province. She enjoys swimming at the CUP, knitting, helping with Filmworks Summerside and walking the beach hunting for sea glass!
Catherine jumped into the Administrative Assistant field 23 years ago, working with a team of different dentists here in Summerside throughout her career. She is happy to bring her experience with her to be on board with us, looking forward to providing you with her assistance. Catherine is originally from Kensington, and has resided in Summerside the last 23 years. She is passionate about people and her community, taking great interest in making a difference and creating a positive experience in her everyday. In her spare time, you will not find her idle, as she will be out exploring and adventuring in her proud PEI surroundings, hiking, cycling, snow shoeing, or simply taking it all in. Her biggest interests include her dog, her husband Billy, learning something new each day, and greeting life with a smile. She looks forward to seeing some familiar faces from her travels, and meeting new!
Administrative Assistant/Yoga Instructor
Melanie has spent the last 5 years serving Summerside and surrounding areas as the manager of The Fit Stop at Credit Union Place. There, she was successful in creating and developing group and individual programs to encourage people to reach their fitness goals. Melanie has worked with people of all ages, but has a special interest in older adult fitness. She recently became certified through the Canadian Centre for Activity and Ageing as a Senior Fitness Instructor and enjoyed it so much she is completing her training to become a trainer for this certification. Melanie holds a degree in Business Administration from UPEI and group fitness and personal training certifications from canfitpro. She also holds certifications from Twist Conditioning in Sport Strength, Movement and Balance, is a HIGH FIVE Trainer, and is working on her 200 hour Yoga Teacher training with YogaFit. Melanie is excited to meet and greet new and familiar faces at The Physio Center from the reception area and in the classroom.
